Joachim Low has hinted that Jens Lehmann is in pole position to claim the No.1 jersey for Germany.
Arsenal stopper favourite for Germany jersey
Germany head coach Joachim Low has hinted that out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is in pole position to claim the No.1 jersey at Euro 2008.
Manuel Almunia has become Arsene Wenger's preferred choice in between the posts at the Emirates Stadium this season - sparking belief that Low may look elsewhere come the start of the tournament.
However, Low had nothing but praise for Lehmann and admitted his delight with the 38-year-old's display in Germany's 4-0 win over Switzerland in the recent friendly in Basel.
Quick and confident
"He still showed an extreme level of calmness, maintained his concentration and directed the defence," Low told
Kicker magazine.
"He has good physical condition, is quick and confident - but nobody has a guaranteed berth."
Both Low and goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke will monitor five candidates in the coming months, with Rene Adler (Bayer Leverkusen) and Manuel Neuer (Schalke) battling it out with the experienced trio of Robert Enke, (Hannover 96) Timo Hildebrand (Valencia) and Lehmann for the three squad places for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
