Milan's Massimo Oddo could be out for a month after undergoing knee surgery on Wednesday.

Defender needs surgery to rectify knee problem

Milan have suffered another defensive blow with the news that Massimo Oddo was expected to undergo knee surgery on Wednesday. The 31-year-old World Cup winner was due under the surgeon's knife in Rome to reduce a meniscus injury. It is expected he will need about four weeks of complete rest before coming back to action. The news is a blow for Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has also lost fellow defender Alessandro Nesta for the next two games against Cagliari and Juventus after he received a red card against Atalanta.

Cesar denial

Meanwhile, the club published a rare denial on their website refuting speculation that they want to sign midfielder Cesar from city rivals Internazionale. It read: "With the maximum of respect to the player in question, Milan categorically denies ever having thought about buying the Brazilian Aparecido Cesar Rodrigues, who plays for Inter. "There have never been any negotiations and there never will be." The Brazilian has only been a bit part player for Inter this term, playing 14 league matches and scoring one goal.
