Winger's Pride Park stint brought to a close
Laurent Robert's brief stint at Derby has been brought to a close with the winger moving to Toronto FC.
The former Newcastle and Portsmouth player's Pride Park contract was cancelled by mutual consent, allowing him to join the MLS side as a free agent.
Frenchman Robert only joined the Rams in January as part of Paul Jewell's influx of players in a failed bid to stave off Premier League relegation.
But he made only three starts during his spell with the club and was allowed to fly to Canada for a trial this week.
Rams boss Paul Jewell told the club's
official website: "It didn't quite work out for Laurent here, but we wish him well in the future."
Thrilled
Former Scotland, Celtic and Rangers striker Mo Johnston, now Toronto's general manager, was delighted to have secured Robert's services.
Johnstone said: "We are thrilled to have Laurent join Toronto FC and become part of our club.
"He's a tremendous player with a lot of talent, and we expect him to come in and make an impact with our club straightaway.
"He's played at every level and is a true professional in every aspect."
And coach John Carver, who was on the staff at St James' Park during Robert's stint in the North East, knows what to expect from his new signing.
Carver added: "I've spent a lot of time with Laurent and know a lot about his game. He'll be a big asset to the team."
