Smith and Carolan sign on

Crystal Palace youngsters Jamie Smith and Ryan Carolan have been handed their first professional contracts at Selhurst Park. The midfielders will be hoping to follow fellow teenagers Sean Scannell, Victor Moses, Lee Hills, John Bostock, Ben Kudjodji and Ashley-Paul Robinson in breaking into Neil Warnock's first-team squad next season. "Jamie Smith is a diminutive attacking central midfielder in the mould of Eyal Berkovic," said under-18 coach Gary Issott. "Ryan is an Irish youth international who can play at centre-back or in midfield. At 6ft 1in he is a tall presence and has good skill on the ball." The Eagles have also offered six-month non-contractual deals to Aaron Dalhouse and Billy Bingham.
