Agent says plaster will suffice

Petr Cech's agent has played down reports that the Chelsea keeper will wear a special mask in order to play with his latest injury. Cech already wears a specially designed rugby-style cap during games after he suffered a fractured skull last season. The Czech keeper's latest injury saw him suffer severe facial lacerations - which needed 50 stitches - after he clashed accidentally with team-mate Tal Ben Haim. It was reported that Cech would wear a special face mask in order to play again this term - but this has been denied by one of his agents.

Plaster

Indeed, David Travnicek suggests that Cech will need little more than a heavy duty plaster. "We need something that will fix Petr's wound so that it won't get banged again," Travnicek told Sport. "He does not need any cover. A good plaster will protect the wound well enough." Cech had been due to make his comeback from an ankle injury against Fenerbahce on Tuesday, before his accident on Sunday. With Carlo Cudicini picking up a hamstring injury against Fener - manager Avram Grant was looking at having to use third-choice Hilario for the season run-in. But Cech's injury may not be as bad as first feared and he could be back as early as next week.
