Striker believes club is heading in right direction

Neil Mellor has expressed his desire to commit his future to Preston North End. The 25-year-old striker, who signed for the Deepdale club from Liverpool in 2006, has struck seven Championship goals this season. And with talks set to be held during the summer, Mellor is keen to put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal. "I've got a year left at Preston, but I'd love to stay much longer than that because I think there could be really exciting times ahead under [manager] Alan Irvine," Mellor told the Lancashire Evening Post.

Desperate

"I'm desperate to stay and I want to repay the faith that Alan Irvine has had in me. "I want to pledge my future to Preston North End and be part of what will hopefully be a special time. "Alan Irvine has given me a real opportunity. I'm trying to do well and prove that I can be part of his plans for next season."
