Injury-plagued defender takes pay cut to stay at Valley Parade
Matt Clarke has accepted a new one-year contract with Bradford City on reduced terms.
The defender has followed the example of team-mates Peter Thorne and Paul Heckingbottom in agreeing to a pay cut to stay with the League Two club.
Clarke, who has been sidelined for the past two months with a knee injury, admits it was a 'massive relief' to be offered a new deal by the Bantams.
"Obviously you do get a little bit worried when you are injured and out of contract, so this has come as a massive relief," Clarke told the
Telegraph & Argus.
Very happy
"I'm very happy at this club and to stay for another year is great."
Bradford boss Stuart McCall has praised Clarke for accepting a significant pay cut to prolong his two-year association with the club.
McCall said: "He understands that it has to be incentive-based because of the amount of games he's played.
"It was a one-off offer, take it or leave it, and I'm pleased with Clarkey's attitude because he has taken quite a large drop in his wage."
