Italian hits both goals as Dortmund succumb in extra-time

Luca Toni kept Bayern Munich on course for a potential treble as he struck twice to see off Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in extra-time of the German Cup final. The Italian striker is enjoying a remarkable first season in German football and again had a decisive impact to help Bayern overcome Dortmund. Toni grabbed the opening goal after just 11 minutes when he converted Franck Ribery's cross after Mark van Bommel had changed the direction of the attack. But Dortmund, who had lost 5-0 to Bayern in the Bundesliga last weekend, produced a storming finale to equalise two minutes into stoppage-time through Mladen Petric. The winning goal arrived two minutes from the end of the first period of extra-time when Toni pounced to turn home Lukas Podolski's cross-shot for his 35th goal of the season. Dortmund finished the match with 10 men when Jakub Blaszczykowski was sent off on 108 minutes for a second yellow card for a foul on Christian Lell. With the German Cup now installed in the trophy cabinet, Bayern will turn their attentions towards next week's Uefa Cup semi-final with Zenit St Petersburg and protecting a 10-point lead in the Bundesliga.
