United striker expected to shake off hip injury

Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit for Manchester United's UEFA Champions League tie with Barcelona. The United striker was replaced towards the end of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers after taking a knock to the hip. Rooney suffered the problem in a collision with Ryan Nelsen and had played on for almost 20 minutes before being replaced. However, Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that the England ace will be fit for Wednesday's semi-final, first leg against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Vidic okay

Edwin van der Sar, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves sat out the game at Ewood Park due to minor injuries, but should also make the trip to Spain. Meanwhile, Nemanja Vidic is optimistic that he has suffered no reaction after making his return from a recent knee injury against Blackburn. Vidic had missed the club's previous three matches, but the Serbian defender came through the full 90 minutes on Saturday. "Yeah, I feel okay," Vidic told MUTV. "I felt my knee a little bit today, but I'm now ready for the next game."
