Former Flamengo coach takes up Bafana Bafana post

South Africa have named Joel Santana as their new head coach following the departure of Carlos Alberto Parreira. Former Flamengo coach Santana has replaced compatriot Parreira who resigned on Monday to be with his family and ill wife. Parreira, who coached Brazil to World Cup success in 1994, recommended Santana after 16 months in charge of the African nation. Santana is expected in South Africa on 9th May and he is feeling confident he can use his experience to help improve Bafana Bafana. "I'm confident about the task ahead of me and I believe my experience in working with many top clubs will assist in preparing the team for the big challenge ahead," said Santana.
