Jonathan Woodgate says it is only 'a matter of time' before Spurs qualify for the Champions League.
Defender hoping for Champions League qualification
Jonathan Woodgate feels it is only 'a matter of time' before Tottenham Hotspur qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Spurs narrowly missed out on qualification for the Champions League in the previous two seasons, but have endured an inconsistent campaign this time around.
However, Juande Ramos is slowly moulding the squad into his own style and has already secured the club's first piece of silverware in nine years after the Carling Cup success over Chelsea in February.
Woodgate, who moved to White Hart Lane from Middlesbrough in January, is excited by the future in North London.
The defender was part of a Leeds squad which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2001 and he senses the same level of potential at his present club.
"Champions League qualification is a realistic aim for us, it really is," Woodgate told
Hotspur magazine.
Unlimited potential
"It's not going to happen overnight, a lot of work has got to be put in between now and next season, but if we keep building on the squad we have got, it's only going to be a matter of time.
"You sometimes sense a buzz, a vibe, that things are going to happen.
"Now we've got to get our heads down and keep working hard to make sure it does.
"There is a feeling here similar to the one I had when I was at Leeds. It's hard to explain, but it's a sense of anticipation, of excitement that we could be on the verge of achieving something special.
"I had my old Leeds team-mate Robbie Keane also telling me what a great club it was and what a great crop of young players Spurs had.
"In fact, he could have been the club's chief scout the way he was going on! But he is right - the potential here is unlimited, especially when you see the age of some of our players.
"To think I'm one of the oldest in the squad now, it's frightening."
