La Liga side call off strike threat after payment promises

Levante will go ahead with Sunday night's game at Recreativo Huelva after their players called off a planned strike action, the club have confirmed. The Primera Liga side have been in financial crisis for some time, resulting in players not receiving salaries and bonuses from as far back as last season. And while the club have failed to carry out promises to pay players in the past following strike threats, a cash advance from the Spanish Football League along with money from Valencia city hall and Levante's board has persuaded the players to go ahead with Sunday's game. "Levante have reached an agreement with the players' representatives to call off the strike action planned for April 26-27, and they have accepted the guarantees necessary to back the deal," read a statement on the club's official website.

Guarantees

Levante defender Luis Rubiales, who acts as a spokesman for the team, reiterated that the players had called off the strike, but stressed that they had made absolutely sure that the promises would be kept this time. "The strike has been called off," he told reporters. "The money will arrive to the players through a direct line of credit of 8million euros. We have a copy of the guarantee."
