Interest mounts in Mallorcan star

Barcelona and Valencia have both opened talks over a possible move for Mallorca striker Dani Guiza and will make official bids at the end of the season, according to reports. The Blaugrana's technical secretary has held talks with the Spanish international striker's agent and celebrity girlfriend, Nuria Bermudez, to see what demands the player himself would make, Marca stated. Guiza's contract at Mallorca contains a buy-out clause of €15m that was included when he rejoined from Getafe last summer and now the Balearic outfit are hoping he will ink a new deal with a higher amount. That appears very unlikely after his first season back at the Ono Estadi has seen the 27-year-old net 21 goals in 31 games and attract a host of admirers that would enable him to step up in his career.

Form

Guiza's form for his club earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team and he made his debut for Luis Aragones' side in November. Recently he was included in the preliminary list of 31 players to be given vaccinations ahead of Euro 2008. Barcelona are keen to add some height to their front line and Guiza's aerial ability could signal a change in thinking at the club with the powerful forward being employed in a similar way to Julio Salinas under Johan Cruyff. Valencia are also set to enter the fray, however, and believe that they can persuade Mallorca to do business by offering players in exchange, most notably Nikola Zigic. Mallorca president, Vicente Grande, knows that he faces a summer of dealing with bids for the player because Italian and English clubs have also expressed an interest, but nothing has been made concrete.
