MLSE president responds to weekend rumours of takeover

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president Richard Peddie has dismissed claims that is planning to buy Tottenham Hotspur. Reports over the weekend had suggested that Peddie was ready to make a £250million offer for the Carling Cup winners. Peddie has recently visited several English grounds and took in a game at White Hart Lane, prompting the speculation he wants to buy Spurs. But the MLSE president has moved quickly to quash the notion that he wants to take over the North London club.

Absolute fiction

"That is absolute fiction - absolute fiction," Peddie told the National Post newspaper in Canada. "I attended a game at White Hart Lane. I took the train, went to a game, watched Tottenham tie and had lunch there. That was the full extent." Peddie also rejected claims that he had met Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to discuss a possible buy-out of the Premier League club. "I have never met the individual, never contemplated an offer," he added. "Complete fiction."
