Chelsea chairman plays down Bridge bust-up

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck is adamant the bust-up between the club's ground staff and Manchester United players is not a 'racist issue'. Trouble occurred after Chelsea's crucial 2-1 victory over United in the Premier League title race at Stamford Bridge last weekend. United players clashed with Chelsea ground staff after they apparently objected to being asked to move as they warmed down on the pitch. Red Devils defender Patrice Evra was involved in the incident, but Buck is convinced that the French defender was not subject to racist abuse.

FA matter

"My understanding is that it is not a racist issue," said Buck. "As far as we are concerned it is handbags at 10 paces. "We have had the communication from the Football Association and now it is a matter for them." And Chelsea manager Avram Grant, who is preparing his side for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Liverpool, has expressed his delight that members of his squad were not involved in the flare up. Grant said in The Guardian: "I am very happy that my players were not involved in this. It was players from the other team. But it's now a club issue."
