United star focused on collective glory

Cristiano Ronaldo insists team success means far more to him than any individual accolades. The talented Manchester United winger took another step towards becoming Fifa's World Player of the Year as he helped Sir Alex Ferguson's side reach the final of the UEFA Champions League. Although he did not add to his astonishing 38-goal haul for the season, Ronaldo's determined display in the 1-0 aggregate triumph over Barcelona demonstrated his impressive work ethic. Having finished third behind Kaka and Lionel Messi in the race for last season's Fifa honour, the former Sporting Lisbon star is the clear front-runner this time around. On Sunday he collected his second successive PFA Player of the Year award, but in the wake of Tuesday night's memorable triumph over Barca he was keen to praise his Red Devils team-mates.

Fantastic

He said: "My performance is not important, winning is and we're in the final. It was a great result. "Of course I feel good. It has been a great season and I'm in a great moment. I've scored many goals. "I have played well but so have the team - they have been fantastic." And the Portugal international believes the blend of youth and experience at Ferguson's disposal makes United a team to be feared at home and abroad.
Balance
"It's very important to have experienced players but it's also equally important to have young players," he added. "Young players have a lot of power and run more, so you need that balance. "You also want to win all the time when you play for Manchester United. "I thought we played better than Barcelona. It was an intensive game but we created more chances and played the better football."
