Juve captain loath to tempt fate over Euro 2008

Alessandro Del Piero is refusing to drawn on the hottest debate in Italian football; whether he will be included in the national squad for Euro 2008. The Juventus striker has shown that his advanced years have not robbed him of any of his class, with 18 Serie A goals testimony to a continued prowess. It had, though, looked as though Italy coach Roberto Donadoni was ready to offer youth its chance in Austria and Switzerland, with Del Piero tipped to be left in Turin. However, in recent weeks Donadoni has stated his intent to utilise the Juve favourite in the European Championship after being left impressed with his displays this season.

All good

Del Piero is loath to chance fate though and has instead vowed to allow Donadoni to pick his squad in peace. 'I've said hello to Donadoni," Del Piero said at a charity golf day held in Novara. "It's not the ideal place to talk about these things. He will decide. "Today I only think to enjoy myself, and it's all good. As for the comments about me it has been a pleasure, as it has been for the whole of the season."
