French defender gives backing to Guardiola

Lilian Thuram insists he is not ready to retire from football and is keen to agree a new deal at Barcelona. The 36-year-old defender is out of contract at the Camp Nou in June and it is not expected that he will be offered a new deal. However, French international Thuram - who joined Barca from Juventus in 2006 - is eager to agree new terms with incoming manager Pep Guardiola. Reserve team coach Guardiola is set to replace Frank Rijkaard at the end of the season and Thuram is keen to be part of the new regime at Barca. "I still don't know what I am going to do next season but I want to keep playing football," said Thuram. And Thuram gave his backing to Guardiola, who will take over from Rijkaard following a disappointing campaign with the Catalan giants. "He is young but competent. I hope people will help him, make things a bit easier and that Barcelona will win titles," Thuram added.
