Boro let Brazilian leave
Fabio Rochemback has travelled to Portugal to undergo a medical with Sporting Lisbon.
The Brazilian international is departing Middlesbrough after they rejected the chance to take up a two-year option they had on the midfielder.
Rochemback spent two-years on loan from Barcelona in Lisbon, before signing for Boro - where he has enjoyed sporadic success during his three-years on Teesside.
Now Rochemback is on his way back to the Jose Alvalade and he is hopeful a deal will soon be sorted.
"I am optimistic," he told the Portuguese press after arriving at Lisbon airport.
"I am happy to be able to return to Lisbon. I was always wanted in Sporting and it feels like home."
Rochemback, who is set to pen a three-year deal with Sporting, signed off for Boro in style on Sunday as he fired home a superb 35-yard free-kick during their 8-1 demolition of Manchester City.
