How they qualified: Group D winners in African qualifying, not losing a game en route to finishing five points clear of Burkina Faso.

History: Senegal's one World Cup appearance to date came back in 2002, where they reached the quarter-finals, losing 1-0 to Turkey after extra time.

Fun fact: Senegal's 23-man squad at the 2002 World Cup comprised of 21 players plying their trade in France.

Best World Cup moment: Undoubtedly the 1-0 victory over reigning champions France in the first game of the 2002 World Cup. Papa Bouba Diop memorably celebrated Senegal's first ever World Cup goal by taking his shirt off and dancing around it by the corner flag with his team-mates.
