Boss rewarded for keeping club in Serie A
Walter Zenga will remain as Catania's boss for the 2008/09 season.
The legendary Italian keeper took charge of the struggling Serie A side in April and led them to safety after an improbable end of season run-in.
The club were in freefall when he arrived, but two wins and two draws in their last seven games saw them steer clear of the relegation zone and maintain their top-flight status for another year.
Having brought immediate success to Stadio Angelo Massimino, Zenga has been rewarded with a new deal which will run until June 2009.
The role represents Zenga's first top-flight managerial post in his homeland after previously taking charge of Brera, as well as clubs in America, Romania, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.
With his future now secure in Sicily reports suggest that he may be joined by his son Jacopo who has impressed during his time with minnows Borgomanero.
A lively striker, Zenga junior spent a period on trial at Catania towards the end of the 2007/08 season and is thought to have impressed club bosses.
