Sunderland chairman believes rumours are a compliment

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn is not surprised at reports linking Roy Keane with the vacant managerial post at Chelsea. Chelsea are currently on the look-out for a new boss following Avram Grant's sacking on Saturday. Keane, whose current deal at the Stadium of Light runs out in 2009, was linked with the role in Tuesday's press, however Quinn is unconcerned by the rumours. "I'm not overly surprised that Roy has been linked," Quinn said on the club's official website.

Under contract

"But rather than fret about it, I'd take it as a positive that we must be doing something right as a football club. "And remember, Roy is still under contract at Sunderland for next season and I'm pretty happy at this stage that he'll be with us for a long time to come." Keane has impressed since taking over Sunderland in 2006, guiding his side to Premier League promotion before preserving their top-flight status in the 2007/08 campaign.
