Holland coach Marco van Basten believes his side can go far in this month's Euro 2008 finals.

Group of Death does not worry Dutch coach

Holland coach Marco van Basten believes the Oranje can go far in this month's Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland. His comments come despite the Dutch playing in the tournament's 'Group of Death' where they must face World champions Italy, France and Romania in their bid to progress out of Group C into the quarter-finals. Holland beat Wales 2-0 in their final warm-up game on Sunday and Van Basten believes his team will be an attacking force in the Euro finals. He said: "If you see again today how many chances we created, we really must score many more goals.

Go far

"We have an interesting group of players who can go far." The Oranje will be boosted when striker Robin van Persie returns to training with his team-mates on Wednesday. The Arsenal man is currently training individually as he recovers from a thigh injury. Van Basten said: "Robin feels good and strong. "He is ready to train with the group. The training sessions next week in Lausanne will show if he can play for us on 9th June in the first group match against Italy."
Van der Sar view
Manchester United goal-keeper Edwin van der Sar was pleased with the win over Wales but lamented the loss of team-mate Ryan Babel to injury after the Liverpool attacker suffered ankle ligament damage in training on Saturday. The veteran, who has a record 125 caps for Holland, said: "We have worked hard and played well but it is a real shame we have lost Ryan Babel." Van der Sar is set to retire from international football after Euro 2008 and stressed that incoming coach Bert van Marwijk, who takes over from Van Basten in July, will not be able to persuade him to continue. "He has hardly any chance, no, none," Van der Sar added.
