The striker is currently on international duty with Ghana, but has been given permission by the GFA (Ghana Football Association) to leave the national side's camp to hold talks with Zamalek.
The Egyptians have identified Agogo as the man to replace Wigan-bound Amr Zaki and are ready to offer the 28-year-old a four-year contract.
An undisclosed bid, which is understood to match Forest's asking price for Agogo, has been lodged and the transfer is expected to be finalised over the next few days.
The striker enjoyed a productive campaign domestically as he bagged 13 league goals to help lift Forest back to the second tier last term, but it was his exploits with Ghana that have seen his stock in African football rise so dramatically.
Agogo was one of the stars of Ghana's run to the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations on home soil scoring three times during an impressive campaign.
He was also on target in the Black Stars' 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Libya on Sunday taking his international record to eight goals in 16 games.
Meanwhile, Zamalek are also thought to be lining up a move to install former Udinese and Milan manager Alberto Zaccheroni as their new coach having failed to win the Egyptian championship since 2004.
