Games-console Euro 2008, Day Eight. After
stunning wins for Romania and France in Group C, we return to catch up with Group D. The results so far:
Spain 2 Russia 1
Greece 2 Sweden 2
Saturday 14 June
Sweden v Spain
He failed to net in their first game, but Fernando Torres is on target twice within the first hour in Innsbruck as Spain set about the Swedes with relish.
Torres opens the scoring from the spot on 35 minutes after a rash tackle on David Villa by Olof Mellberg, and shortly before the hour mark he doubles the Spanish advantage, rounding Andreas Isaksson and finishing coolly after Villa sends him racing clear of the defence.
Spain are cruising but there are signs of nerves when Marcus Allback pulls a goal back on 76 minutes, heading past Iker Casillas after his initial shot is saved.
Torres hits the bar at the other end but Spain are then stunned when the evergreen Henrik Larsson, on as a substitute, meets Mikael Dorsin's deep left-wing cross with a magnificent leap and sends his header into the bottom corner eight minutes from time. Another late show from Sweden.
Final score: Sweden 2 Spain 2.
Greece v Russia
No goals in Salzburg but no shortage of entertainment either. Kostas Katsouranis is the star man on show, keeping Igor Akinfeev busy with at least three superb efforts which are only kept out by fingertip saves.
At the other end, Roman Pavlyuchenko sends a header narrowly wide but Russia spend most of the game hanging on grimly - much to the frustration of the defending champions.
Final score: Greece 0 Russia 0.
Spain have four points but aren't totally sure of making the quarter-finals, while the other three teams are also in with a shout in a very tight Group D. Next up, it's the conclusion to Group A...
