A brolly bad choice

Tony Gale told Sky Sports News that Steve McClaren is the wrong man to replace Mark Hughes at Blackburn.

McClaren not right for Rovers job, says Gale

Tony Gale believes Steve McClaren is the WRONG man for Blackburn Rovers. The former England manager has been in talks with the Ewood Park outfit on Monday, following Mark Hughes' decision to switch to Manchester City. Sam Allardyce and Paul Ince are thought to be the other leading contenders for the job and Gale, who was part of Rovers Premier League-winning side in 1994-95, would rather see either of those two take over. He believes that McClaren's failure to take England to Euro 2008 is still fresh in the fans' minds and would make him an unpopular replacement for Hughes. "It doesn't surprise me, because he'll want to get back into the job, but I think he's going to find it particularly difficult because there's a lot of scars from the England job still," Gale told Sky Sports News. "It was obvious he wants to get back into the job and the Premier League but I think it might be hard for him to find a team that is going to take him on at the moment, because there will be a lot of criticism from fans. "He might have to wait some time." Gale went on to say that two managers at opposite ends of the scale would be better suited to Blackburn. Allardyce has revealed he is ready to return to football after being sacked by Newcastle early last season, while Ince has been getting rave reviews for the work he has done at MK Dons. And their former defender believes both fit the bill, depending on what Rovers want from their new boss. "Despite what the chairman says, I think Paul Ince is a great candidate - if they want youth and to follow the trend they set with Mark Hughes. "If they want experience and someone out there who is ready and waiting, then it has to be Big Sam." Whoever does take over will face a tough trip to Everton on the opening day of the 2008-09 season,
