Dutch defender completes move to Tractor Boys

Ipswich have completed the signing of Pim Balkestein for an undisclosed fee from Heerenveen. The 21-year-old spent a brief period on loan with the Tractor Boys at the end of last season and impressed sufficiently to earn a permanent deal. He has penned a two-year contract at Portman Road and arrives in the wake of a glowing reference from manager Jim Magilton.

Cultured

"We are delighted to have Pim at this club," Magilton told the club's official website. "He wasn't fazed by mixing it up with the first-team players when he came over for a trial with us. "He is a confident lad who is aggressive in his play and has a cultured left foot. "He is 6ft 3in, is an organiser, can pass a ball and is someone who is desperate for an opportunity."
