Alain Perrin is set to relinquish his role as manager of Ligue 1 champions Lyon.

Boss departs despite double success

Alain Perrin is set to relinquish his role as manager of Ligue 1 champions Lyon. The former Portsmouth boss only joined the club at the start of the 2007/08 season, but has lasted just 12 months in the post. He led the club to a seventh consecutive title, and completed a domestic double by also landing the French Cup. Despite that success, the first time the club have achieved such a feat in their illustrious history, Perrin was unable to lead Lyon past the last 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Agreement

With the championship crown also being secured in a less than commanding manner, chairman Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that the club will be looking for a new coach this summer. "Perrin is leaving," he said. "We found an agreement which will enable him to leave in the good conditions he and us were looking for." Lille's highly-rated manager Claude Puel has emerged as an early front-runner for the vacant hot-seat, but Aulas refused to comment on the speculation. "No decision has been taken," he said.
