City still eager to sign Brazilian despite new ruling

Manchester City remain 'hopeful' they can complete a deal for CSKA Moscow striker Jo, despite a new Premier League rule prohibiting third-party ownership arrangements. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Eastlands for some time, but no deal has been struck and the move appeared to be in jeopardy after it was confirmed that Premier League sides must own players outright from next season. But City's executive chairman, Garry Cook, has been in discussions with Premier League chairman Sir David Richards and insists he is still confident a deal can be agreed. "Jo is a player who interests us and we are currently in discussions with CSKA Moscow and his representatives," he told the club's official website. "We are hopeful of progress. "I have spoken personally to Sir David and we are keeping in contact with the Premier League on the issue. "Manchester City is fully aware of the rules regarding third-party ownership of players and any transfers will be completed to Premier League regulations." Kia Joorabchian, Jo's advisor, will also be looking to find a way to complete the deal, according to his spokesman. "Kia is aware of the change of rules with regard to third-party ownership," he said. "He is working on a solution that will be suitable to the Premier League and Manchester City."

Plans

Meanwhile, Cook has revealed that new boss Mark Hughes has made an impressive start to life at the City of Manchester Stadium. "Mark Hughes has hit the ground running," he said. "He has been exceptionally busy over the last few days developing plans on the playing and coaching front, together with creating a Carrington training ground that he is comfortable with."

And Cook confirmed that there is no truth in rumours the club crest is about to undergo a redesign. "I did see a ridiculous story in an English Sunday newspaper before I left which claimed that there would be a change to the club crest with the image of an elephant being added to it! "I want to reassure supporters that there is no truth in that whatsoever."
