Fiorentina have dismissed claims that the club are in talks to sell Mario Santana to Spurs.

Serie A club determined to hang on to winger

Fiorentina have dismissed claims that the club are in talks to sell Mario Santana to Tottenham Hotspur. Sporting director Pantaleo Corvino had been quoted as saying that Fiorentina had agreed a £4million deal with Spurs for Santana. Corvino was also reported to have stated that the winger did not feature in the Serie A club's plans for next season. However, the Viola have issued a statement to deny reports that Corvino had discussed Santana's possible departure.

False information

"Fiorentina want to make it clear that Corvino never released any statement to The Sun newspaper about the alleged sale of Santana to Tottenham," read a statement on the club's official website. Viola vice-president Mario Cognigni also confirmed that there are no plans to offload Santana before the start of next season. Cognigni said: "We have created so many good players that it is inevitable we are handed requests about them. "But in this case there has been false information. I guarantee you that as a club we don't have in mind any talk of a transfer."
