Austria coach ready to leave the dugout

Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has announced that he will not be seeking a new contract. The 60-year-old, who is contracted to the OFB job until the end of 2008, now looks certain to quit before his country begins qualification for the 2008 World Cup this autumn. The former Rapid Vienna boss led his team to respectable performances at Euro 2008, but Austria failed to progress after picking up just one point from three group matches. "I am empty and tired, Hickersberger commented in an interview with The Standard. "I need some time away to recharge my batteries. "This chapter is over and our mission has been fulfilled. I have spent a lot of time thinking about it, but this story always had a sell-by date."
