Former Magpies chief eyes Spanish takeover
Former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd is in talks to buy Spanish side Real Mallorca.
The outspoken and sometimes controversial businessman severed all links with the Magpies in July 2007 following a health scare.
He had sold the club to Mike Ashley in May of the same year, but retained his role as chairman.
Currently holding no business interest in football, Shepherd sees Mallorca as an ideal route back into the game.
The Primera Liga side are up for sale at around 40million euros (£31.6m) after its parent company, Grupo Drac, filed for administration last week.
Second team
Shepherd confirmed that he had held preliminary discussions with the club in regards to a potential takeover, claiming that he has always had an affinity for the club.
"All I can say is that we're in discussions," he said.
"We live in Mallorca most of the year. Mallorca has always been our second team."
Shepherd refused to give any more details at this point, while Mallorca are yet to make an announcement concerning the matter.
