Paraguay striker could be set for Wigan move

Wigan are considering a summer swoop for striker Salvador Cabanas, according to the Paraguay international's agent. Cabanas, who previously attracted interest from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has won 33 caps for his country. The powerful forward, nicknamed 'The Bull', could now follow in the footsteps of international team-mate Roque Santa Cruz in testing himself in the Premier League. Latics boss Steve Bruce will be looking to bolster his forward options following the departure of Julius Aghahowa and the expected exit of Antoine Sibierski. Cabanas' representative Jose Maria Gonzalez confirmed the JJB Stadium side had made an initial enquiry.

Incredibly exciting

Gonzalez told the Wigan Evening Post: "There has been contact with Wigan. "It would be a good move forward because he would love to test himself in the Premier League. "Wigan are well established with a fine manager. "We are thinking about it and we will see what develops. "The Premier League is an incredibly exciting league and the world's best players are there."
