Manchester United officials have met with Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time since he confirmed his desire to leave in order to asses his ankle. The Portugal international returned to his homeland on Wednesday following a brief holiday in Italy in order to set a date for ankle surgery. Ronaldo has now been told he needs further specialist advice to discover the full extent of his ankle problem. The Red Devils ace's future remains unclear this summer after he confirmed his desire to join Real Madrid despite having a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

Treatment

"Manchester United medical staff met with the medical teams of the Portuguese FA and Cristiano Ronaldo in Lisbon regarding the ongoing treatment of an injury to his right ankle," read a statement on United's official website. "As a result, further specialist advice is being sort and an announcement will be made on any action in due course." Ronaldo was asked in Lisbon if there was an update on his future, but he again refused to comment. "I can only say that (I) will spend the period of my recovery in my house in Sintra, but regarding my future I cannot say anything," said the 23-year-old.
