New MK Dons manager hopes to build on Ince's success
Roberto Di Matteo has spoken of his ambitions after he was officially unveiled as the new manager of MK Dons.
The former Chelsea and Italy midfielder was confirmed as Paul Ince's successor on Wednesday.
The role is Di Matteo's first management job but the 38-year-old is 'very confident' of succeeding at Stadium:mk.
He explained, in a live press conference on
Sky Sports News, that he immediately knew the position was right for him after he held talks with chairman Pete Winkelman.
"We talked and it was a very easy decision. I was fascinated by the club and the chairman," Di Matteo, whose assistant manager will be Eddie Newton, said.
Passion
"I would like to help the chairman implement his vision which is taking the team higher.
"I have never really left football in a sense. It is a fire inside of me and football is in your blood.
"I think it is a young club and an ambitious one. It is a great opportunity to start here.
"I am very confident that we will do a good job. We know what we want and we are very focused."
Di Matteo faces a tough task in following in the footsteps of Ince after the now Blackburn boss guided the club to the League Two title last season and success in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
But the Italian is sure he can build on Ince's achievement as he turns his attention to strengthening the squad over the summer.
Transfers
Di Matteo added: "Yes he (Winkelman) has told me [how much money is available] and we will work with that, I am not afraid of that. I just want to get on with working.
"We have been very busy over the last three days but we will not rush into any decisions.
"We are running a bit late but we are talking to all the people we know. It is a process that will take a bit of time.
"It is a new chapter. It is League One this year. I plan to retain the players I can."
