Wigan not looking to sell defender
Paul Jewell has shelved plans to bring Titus Bramble to Derby County after Wigan Athletic turned down an enquiry.
Bramble moved to the JJB Stadium on a free transfer from Newcastle United 12 months ago and made 26 Premier League appearances last season.
However, he featured only twice in the final three months of the campaign and had been linked with a move away from Wigan.
With Paul Scharner expected to sign a new contract with the Latics, former Wigan boss Jewell tested the water with an approach for Bramble.
Jewell, though, is now looking elsewhere for a new centre-half after revealing his JJB counterpart Steve Bruce wants to keep the 27-year-old.
"I asked Wigan about Titus' availability as it seems like Paul Scharner is going to sign a new contract, but they would not do a deal," said Jewell in the
Wigan Evening Post.
"It sounds like they want to keep Titus there too, so I'm now looking elsewhere for reinforcements."
