Defender joins Chesterfield on one-year deal

Chesterfield have completed the signing of former Gretna defender Danny Hall on a one-year deal. The 24-year-old, who has also played for Oldham and Shrewsbury, joined Gretna in January but was made redundant as the Scottish club went into administration. Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson sees Hall as a replacement for Hungarian defender Janos Kovacs, who left the Spireites for League Two rivals Lincoln earlier in the summer. "Danny is a versatile player who I have monitored whilst in Scotland and he has become available due to Gretna's unfortunate demise," said Richardson.

Competition

Hall believes his addition will help bolster the Spireites' squad as they aim to improve on narrowly missing the play-offs last season. "I am really pleased to be joining Chesterfield and think the competition for places will bring out the best in us all," he added. "I reckon we could be in for a good season."
