Exit poll suggests president will remain
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is reported to have survived a motion of censure, according to an exit poll.
The confidence vote against the Camp Nou supremo was brought by Barca supporter Oriol Giralt, who had become frustrated at the direction of the club and their lack of silverware.
Of the Barcelona supporters who voted, 38.9 per cent wanted Laporta to remain at the helm, while 59.6 per cent were against him staying on, the exit poll for
TV3 and
Catalunya Radio found.
For the motion of censure to be carried, over two thirds of voters would have to be against Laporta, with a minimum turn-out of 10 per cent required.
The 45-year-old, who took over as the club's president in 2003 and was re-elected in 2006, axed Frank Rijkaard at the end of last season with Pep Guardiola appointed in his place.
The Catalan giants could only finish third in the La Liga table last season, meaning they will have to go through initial qualifying to reach the UEFA Champions League group stages.
