League One side will have to up the ante to land their man

Walsall have had a bid turned down for Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Russell Penn. The England C International, who has a year left on his contract with the Blue Square Premier outfit, has attracted a lot of interest over the summer. Jimmy Mullen's League One side have now made a firm bid but Kidderminster chairman Barry Norgrove said the offer was 'nowhere close' to what they think he is worth. He told the club's official website: " We received an offer from Walsall for Russell but it was nowhere close to matching our valuation of the player.

Performed excellently

"He's one of our best players and has also performed excellently for the England C team last season, and we didn't think the bid reflected his ability." A former Scunthorpe Youth Team player, Penn joined the club in 2005 and has since made 129 appearances.
