Irish side Bohemians lose on away goals despite late strike

Scottish side Hibernian crashed out of the Intertoto Cup at the second hurdle to Elfsborg. Goals from Mathias Floren and Emir Bajrami handed the Swedish side a 4-0 aggregate triumph over Mixu Paatelainen's Hibs after the first leg at Easter Road had ended 2-0. There was also misery for Irish side Bohemians, who went out of the competition on away goals despite beating Latvian outfit FK Riga 2-1 at Dalymount Park. Jason McGuinness put the home side ahead on 21 minutes but Grigori Chirkin got the vital away goal for Riga on 65 minutes. Killian Brennan then netted a 90th minute penalty but it was not enough for the Irish side, whose night got even worse with a last minute red card for Thomas Heary. Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers overcame their Albanian Superliga opponents KS Besa 5-1 on aggregate thanks to a 3-0 away victory. A brace from Montenegrin forward Samel Sabanovic on 52 and 69 minutes sealed their progress, with Steven Zuber completing the rout with five minutes to go. Hungarian club Budapest Honved needed the away goals rule to overcome Czech side FK Teplice. After a 3-1 defeat at home in the first leg, Teplice almost completed a great comeback following goals from Tomas Jun on 68 minutes and Antonin Rosa four minutes later, but they could not get the third goal they needed to progress. PFC Neftti got through to the next round after a 1-0 home win against Germinal Beerschot. The tie was delicately poised after the 1-1 first leg and Elnur Allahverdijev got the all important winner on 57 minutes. Chernomorets Burgas also progressed thanks to a great 2-0 away win against Borivoje Lucic's NK Gorica. After they were held to a 1-1 stalemate in their home game, the Bulgarians went ahead through a Shener Remzi penalty on 54 minutes in the second leg. They then put the game beyond doubt through Michel on 86 minutes. Elsewhere, Israel outfit Bnei Sachnin got through to the next stage at the expense of Macedonian side Renova after Rannaim gave them a 1-0 home win and 3-1 aggregate score.
