Czech striker looking to impress
Tottenham Hotspur youngster Tomas Pekhart is eyeing a regular first-team spot after making his first-team debut in the side's 8-0 friendly win over Tavernes.
The Czech Republic Under 21 international scored twice against the Spanish outfit, as well as setting up a goal for Steed Malbranque, and the 19-year old was singled out for praise by Spurs assistant manager Gus Poyet.
The striker is entering his third year at White Hart Lane and is looking to establish himself in the senior squad, having finished last season as the reserve team's top scorer.
On his impressive performance in Monday's game, Pekhart told
www.deniksport.cz: "It was a good start, I am happy for the goals, but I don't think they have changed my role in the team."
Pekhart's fellow strikers, Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, have been heavily linked with Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, and while the player admits he would be loathe to see the pair leave North London, he acknowledges that their departures could enhance his first-team prospects.
Rumours
"Including me, there are four strikers in the team. So far it seems that the club want to keep it on this figure," he added.
"But there have still been rumours about someone leaving and coming. Recently it has been reported that Liverpool want Robbie Keane and that Dimitar Berbatov could pen a contract with Manchester United at the end of July."
There have been a host of strikers linked with moves to the club should either Berbatov or Keane leave, but the highly-rated youngster is not allowing himself to be distracted by the ongoing reports.
"Once it is Roque Santa Cruz, then Sergio Garcia. You cannot believe everything," he said.
"Anyway, if no one leaves, then the striking duo of Berbatov and Keane is first choice.
"I agree, they would bring some good replacement in, there would not be an empty space left. It would have been very, very difficult to replace Dimitar Berbatov anyway. He is one of the best strikers in the Premier League."
