Raul backs Ronaldo capture

Raul does not agree that Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Real Madrid would cause problems.

Madrid star would welcome Man United star

Raul does not believe that Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at Real Madrid would cause problems and admits that he would welcome the Portuguese star if the summer-long struggle is successful. Los Merengues' captain was reacting to Wesley Sneijder's view that the Manchester United star's hefty salary may upset some of the club's senior players if he did move to the Bernabeu. Pointing to the unity forged under Bernd Schuster, built on two successive league title wins, Raul thinks that the squad would welcome Ronaldo. "I see no reason why he would cause problems. I think it could be very positive because we have a great squad, with a lot of big players and it is obvious that if a player of a very high level joined he would be welcome and helped to adapt," he told AS. "We know the path to success and that is how we will continue to work. We have some important challenges ahead knowing that after winning two consecutive leagues we will have to raise our game even more. "Our good form will continue whether Cristiano comes or not and at whatever price. Nothing will break up the unity we currently have."

Robinho stay

One rumour that Raul would not like to see materialise however, is for Robinho to exit Madrid if Ronaldo were to arrive because he believes the Brazilian has been so impressive. "I think Robinho is a truly great player that has improved dramatically here and last year reached a very high level," he continued. "But I also think that Cristiano is a player that everyone would want. He is a great player and is one of the best in the world at the moment. "Last year he scored over 30 goals and won the title and the Champions League. He is certainly one of the best. But it is a sporting and a technical decision. If they believe he is necessary then they will try and sign him."
