Saints winger ordered to carry out community service
Southampton winger Nathan Dyer has been ordered to carry out 60 hours' community service.
He pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Friday to a burglary at a nightclub staff room in which mobile phones and cash were stolen.
The 20-year-old said he was ashamed after he admitted rummaging through bags belonging to staff, but denied stealing any of the items during the incident, which involved four other men.
Chairman of the Bench Christopher Malone also ordered Dyer to pay a total of £392.50 compensation to the four victims as well as £65 costs.
He warned Dyer that if he did not complete the 60 hours of unpaid work satisfactorily within a 12-month period he could face imprisonment.
Dyer this week ended speculation about his future by signing a new three-year contract with Southampton.
£5m loss
Meanwhile, Saints have revealed they are expecting pre-tax losses of approximately £5million for the past year.
The loss of parachute payments from the Premier League, reduced ticket revenue and commercial income have led to the poor financial showings for the financial year ended 30th June, 2008.
The official results will be published in 12 weeks time and are set to show a revenue of £14million and increased levels of borrowing.
Chairman Rupert Lowe said: "The directors are aware that this is clearly not sustainable and are concentrating on reducing costs, however the directors remain hopeful about the prospects for the forthcoming season.
"Jan Poortvliet and Mark Wotte are very excited about what will be a young dynamic team determined to play fast and attractive football."
