Crewe midfielder out to resurrect Gresty Road career

Crewe midfielder Gary Roberts has vowed to fight for his future at Gresty Road after he was not given a squad number by boss Steve Holland. The 21-year-old former youth international angered Holland when he missed several training sessions and decided against travelling on the club's pre-season tour to Bulgaria. Roberts was eventually placed on the transfer list but after holding talks with Crewe, he wants to try and resurrect his career with the Railwaymen. "I've spoken to Gary and he has pledged his allegiance to us," Holland told the club's official site. "He has admitted that he has made some mistakes and told us that he wants to get his head down and fight for his place." Holland has now decided Roberts can resume his role as part of the first-team squad. "He will be considered like everyone else but has some catching up to do. Because of this U-turn we have given Gary a shirt number and now it's up to him," he added.
