Gordon Strachan will experiment with Celtic's tactics as he looks for a winning European formula.
Celtic boss looking for suitable European formation
Gordon Strachan is planning to experiment with Celtic's formation as he looks to find a cure for the club's European travel troubles.
Though Celtic have reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the past two seasons, the club have yet to win away from home in the competition.
Bhoys boss Strachan is using pre-season to try out different tactics and will continue the policy in this weekend's games against Tottenham and Feyenoord.
Strachan admits that his aim is to concoct a system which will be capable of securing a result on the road in the Champions League.
"We will try out a few systems against good opposition and ask ourselves the question, 'will this be good enough to use in European games away from home?'" he told
Celtic View.
"I have to think of that. We have done one or two things already, experimenting and I think we will keep doing that until about 10 days before we really start."
Lots of positives
Meanwhile, Strachan believes his side's performances and results from last season demand a more objective analysis following sporadic criticism from Celtic fans.
He said: "A lot of football I thought was better than that which we had played in the previous season, it was more pleasing on the eye and we scored more goals.
"We set out last year with a target of scoring more goals, conceding fewer and being the best defensive team and we achieved that.
"For all the tension on our back four, we had the best defensive record in the country and that says a lot.
"Between our two main strikers we scored 50 goals and Aiden McGeady was Player of the Year for many people, so we can look at a lot of positive things."
