Blues striker looking forward to new season

Andriy Shevchenko is determined to make a big impact at Chelsea after holding talks with Luiz Felipe Scolari. The Ukrainian striker has had a frustrating couple of seasons since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2006. He has rarely found his best form, while injuries have also contributed to his disappointment. However, Shevchenko will be staying with the club and is excited about the start of the new season after recovering from an operation. "I have trained with the team only a week," Shevchenko, who made substitute appearances against Lokomotiv Moscow and AC Milan in the Railways Cup, told Chelsea's official website. "The process of recovery is taking place normally and the injury doesn't bother me. "It is gratifying that the coach gave me an opportunity to get back into the rhythm of playing. "During these two years at Chelsea I had two operations and a serious back injury. "If I will have the opportunity to train and play without injuries, I would like to leave my mark on the history of Chelsea."

Scolari praise

Scolari hinted over the weekend that he would not include Shevchenko in his starting line-up for the opening game of the Premier League season. Shevchenko has spoken with the Brazilian manager about his role in the team and he is now looking to build up his fitness and compete for a place. "We had a good conversation," he explained. "I'm only now getting into shape and recovering from injury, so preference is given to those players who are in better form. "The coach always chooses the best players in order to choose the best scheme. I very much respect Scolari as a man and a great coach. "I think the challenge for the coach now is to find the optimum team and help the players achieve their best form."
