Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expecting 'big things' from Carlos Tevez this season.

United boss confident striker will be even better this season

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expecting 'big things' from Carlos Tevez this season. Tevez is gearing up for his second year at Old Trafford after scoring 19 goals, in addition to winning the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, during his debut campaign. The Argentine striker was also named man of the match in Sunday's Community Shield as United beat Portsmouth on penalties after a 0-0 draw. With Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo missing the start of the campaign, Tevez will be looked upon to provide United's main attacking threat. And Ferguson is confident that Tevez can enjoy an even more productive year for the champions after improving his fitness levels.

Real handful

"Carlos came to us a year ago, straight after the Copa America," said Ferguson. "His fitness now is light years ahead of where it was then and we are expecting big things from him. "The great thing about Tevez is that he has a heart to play the game. He is not intimidated at all, he fights for every ball and is a real handful. "The decision to make him man of the match was fully justified. "It was a superb performance. He was a constant thorn to Portsmouth and it is just a pity he did not get a goal."
