Alex McLeish believes it is a 'certainty' that Sebastian Larsson will stay at Birmingham this season.

Blues boss says midfielder is committed to club

Alex McLeish believes it is a 'certainty' that Sebastian Larsson will stay at Birmingham City this season. Larsson has expressed a wish to secure a move to the Premier League following Birmingham's relegation. The Swedish midfielder, who has two years left on his St Andrews contract, has been linked with Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. But Birmingham boss McLeish is ruling out the possibility of Larsson being sold before the close of the transfer window.

Totally committed

"Will he be staying? Yes, I definitely think so," said McLeish in the Birmingham Mail. "You can never say or never can tell in football, but I would say that it's a certainty he will be staying, at least for this season." McLeish has informed Larsson of the club's position on the matter and believes the player is committed to Blues. When asked if the 23-year-old was happy with the situation, McLeish replied: "I don't know, you'd need to ask him that. "But I certainly think that he's totally committed. If he goes out on that field, he's totally committed to the Birmingham fans and Birmingham City Football Club."
