Defender completes free transfer and could face Pompey
Everton have completed the signing of Denmark international defender Lars Jacobsen on a free transfer.
Jacobsen becomes David Moyes' first recruit of the summer after passing a medical at the Premier League club.
He had agreed a one-year contract at Goodison Park on Monday after negotiating his release from German club Nurnberg at the end of last season.
Subject to Everton receiving the right-back's registration from the German FA, Jacobsen could make his debut against Portsmouth on Saturday.
The 28-year-old admits he could not turn down the chance to play in the Premier League and believes he has secured a 'fantastic opportunity'.
Relieved
"I'm very happy and very relieved it ended up like this because this was the best solution," Jacobsen told the Liverpool Echo. "It was very good that we kept calm, it's been worth the wait.
"I met David Moyes and the players. Everton are a big club and it's a fantastic opportunity for me which I couldn't say no to.
"I'm satisfied with the one-year deal and we have the possibility to look at another one.
"It was the Premier League where I wanted to be. Everton know what they are getting, they have seen me in a lot of matches, it's up to me now."
