Gillingham seal Accrington win

Dennis Oli was the hero for Gillingham as they snatched a deserved 1-0 win against Accrington in the first meeting between the two clubs at Priestfield for 47 years. Oli broke through a stubborn Accrington defence with 15 minutes to go as he turned debutant Charlie Daniels' cross past visiting keeper Kenny Arthur. The Gills dominated possession and chances but struggled to find a way past Stanley with Arthur in great form between the posts. Gillingham's best chance came after 22 minutes when Simeon Jackson out muscled left-back Chris King and cut into the penalty area only for Arthur again to turn the ball just wide. Stanley's best effort came early in the second half when John Miles tried his luck from the edge of the box but his shot was comfortably saved by Simon Royce in the Gillingham goal.
